Anubex, leader in Enterprise IT Modernization, is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of one of its migration projects. The migration was for the Tax and Revenue Department of New Mexico, a US State agency performing a migration from IDMS, a prerelational database, to SQL Server. The migration to SQL Server increased productivity of all employees and enabled cost reduction. Anubex performed the migration entirely from its Antwerp, Belgium headquarters.
For several years, the Tax Department experienced difficulties in exploiting their previous database, which contained historical information on the taxpayers in New Mexico. The database sat on an IBM zSeries mainframe and was implemented using IDMS, an obsolete technology from Computer Associates. The staff responsible for maintaining and supporting the mainframe were almost all approaching retirement age, and software maintenance costs were mounting. Jacque Geoffrion, administration manager for the Tax Department: "In the past, costs for system maintenance and support were always shared among the various government institutions. But one by one, the departments started to modernize by switching to other database vendors. When we decided to migrate to an open system, we were the next-to-last department still working with IDMS."
After an extensive search for a suitable supplier, Jacque Geoffrion met Anubex: "Anubex has a unique approach that is very different from that of other firms in the same line of business. They were able to realize the fastest migration with fewest risks, thanks to their specialized conversion tools and their own methodology. By responding to the project's specific demands, Anubex was able to complete the migration of our IDMS environment in no time."
The management of the Belgian firm is upbeat on its prospects for growth. "Although 80% of our business happens outside of Belgium, the New Mexico project is our first mainframe migration in the United States. We are in contact with several other American companies and hope to sign two or three migration deals in the US over the next year", says Louis Heymans, Managing Director of Anubex. "Overall, migration projects tend to be less complex in the United States than in Europe, but the data volumes are considerably larger. Thanks to the maturity of our conversion tools and SOAR process, we can automate up to 99% of the conversion work."
