Anubex to migrate VB6 applications to VB.NET for leading Dutch law firm
Anubex, leader in application modernization, is pleased to announce it has won a contract to migrate a law firm in the Netherlands to the Microsoft .NET platform. The project will involve the conversion of the firm's Notary Rolodex, a CRM system used by the firm since 2001, from VB6 to VB.NET.
The project to migrate from VB6 to VB.NET is a first for Anubex, which is best known for its expertise in the migration and modernization of host-based technologies on mainframe and minicomputer hardware.
With the migration, all components of the Notary Rolodex will be upgraded to more recent, .NET counterparts. While the conversion will guarantee a 100% precise replication of the software's functionality, the switch to .NET components will mean users will be presented with a modernized look and feel.
The law firm took the decision to migrate since Microsoft has announced it will be terminating regular support for VB6 development tools in April 2008. For the law firm's IT team, the move is also justified as one of consolidation on Microsoft technology. Currently, the Notary Rolodex software uses Oracle database technology; coinciding with the conversion of VB6 to VB.NET will be the migration of the data to Microsoft's SQL Server database product.
"Visual Basic users all over the world are under mounting pressure from Microsoft to migrate," according to Louis Heymans, Managing Director of Anubex. "Seen the high cost of a manual migration, there is a clear case for companies to work with a mature migration partner like Anubex who use tools to help ease the transition."
